IPCE 2026 · Calgary
A Nigerian perspective on pipeline integrity—shared with the world.
Westend Diamond Energy Limited (WEDEL) is grateful to Calgary, ASME, PRCI and everyone who joined the conversation at the International Pipeline Conference & Expo.
At the ASME / PRCI Technical Session, our Managing Director, Engr. Reuben Temerigha, presented “Pipeline Integrity in Nigeria and the Shared Environmental Responsibility.”
The responsibility behind the engineering
The real cost of pipeline failure
Pipeline incidents are measured in more than lost product or repair time. For affected communities, the consequences can include unsafe drinking water, unusable farmland, threatened fishing livelihoods and long-term damage to soil, waterways and mangrove ecosystems.
“Protecting infrastructure must also mean protecting the people and environments around it.”
The decades of damage documented in the UNEP Ogoniland Assessment show how environmental harm can outlive the incident that caused it.
From insight to action
Preventing avoidable harm starts before the incident.
The presentation explored practical pathways for prevention: using analytics to identify risk, conducting disciplined field interventions, and building recovery programmes whose progress can be verified with the communities they are intended to serve.
01
Analytics-led prevention
Detect threats and support earlier, better-informed decisions.
02
Safe field intervention
Ground every action in planning, isolation, competence and environmental awareness.
03
Verified recovery
Make affected communities visible participants in restoration.
04
Shared responsibility
Connect operators, regulators, service companies, communities and the global energy sector.
